Girls Track & Field Marion Relays Results

The Kokomo Girls Track and Field team placed 5th out of 9 teams on Saturday at the Marion Relays with Ft. Wayne Homestead winning the meet. It was a rainy day but the girls were very unified, supportive and competitive. Jhazlyn McKay won the 100 hurdles in a time of 15.72 while Giyanna Thornton brought in 4th in 16.91. Eliana Stewart was runner up in the high jump with a PR of 5’0”. Tia Williams placed 5th in long jump at 15’7”. Ja’Layia Williams pole vaulted 6’0” placing her 7th. The 800 meter sprint relay team of Giyanna Thornton, Eliana Stewart, Akiera Huntsman, and Jhazlyn McKay won by 2/1000th of a second in a photo finish ahead of Marion with Jhazlyn anchoring the final 400 meters in 59.2. The 4x100 meter relay team was reorganized at the last minute orchestrated by coach Bryan Woods putting together the team of Jaila Russell, Akiera Huntsman, Eliana Stewart and Tia Williams performing at a high level to place 3rd. The 4x400 relay team comprised of Ja’Layia Williams, Neaveh Wilson, Maddie McGuire and Jaila Russell placed 8th with Maddie and Jaila running strong 3rd and 4th legs. Morgan Rakestraw (6:50.64) and Gretchen Riggle (6:52.83) both raced the 1600 meters in personal best times.
