Two predominant words described our girls track and field team in our season opener on Tuesday night. We were encouragers and fighters. Our girls performed at a high level in preparation for championship performances to come. JaLayia won the pole vault, Tia Williams and Makaela Drake finished 1-2 in the long jump, and Eliana Stewart and Gabbie Flowers finished 2-3 in the high jump. Our young throwers Mia Hancock and Keaira Harmon performed at a high level. Makaela finished 2nd in the 100 to lead a strong group. Laila Solomon finished 5th. Mariah Reid won her heat. Giyanna Thornton placed 2nd in the 300 hurdles. Akiera Huntsman placed 4th in the 200. Our mid-distance and distance runners Morgan Rakestraw, Gretchen Riggle, Jimena Mier, Emilie Leger and JaLayia Williams set personal bests and Tia Williams and Nevaeh Wilson finished 3rd and 5th in the 400.
