Cage Punches Ticket to State

By Jordan Ousley | Oct 25, 2025 6:12 PM

The Wildkats raced in the highly competitive Brownsburg Regional Saturday morning and placed 18th out of 25 teams. We were led by senior Cooper Cage who placed 24th overall with a time of 15:53 and punched his ticket to the state meet. Cooper ran a strong beginning of the race and then held on the last 1k to solidify his spot in the state meet. Cooper has had a great season and we are excited to get an opportunity to represent Kokomo at the state meet, which will be ran in Terra Haute at the Lavern Gibson Championship Course at Noon, Saturday November 1st. For the rest of our squad the season comes to a close, but not without a few highlights. Sophomore Leo Serra had a fantastic race as he set a new PR with a time of 17:58. This was the first time Leo has broken 18 and he has had a great month of racing setting him up for a good junior year next season. Freshman Monte Bunn also had a breakthrough race as he set a PR of 19:31. Monte has also had a great last month of racing and we are excited to see his continued growth and improvement over the coming years. I would like to say thank you to our seniors Preston Arreola & Ben Wallace for their dedication and commitment to the team during their time on our team, as their season ended at the regional. Ben has been a four year letter winner and has helped grow our team, while Preston has become a key linchpin in our varsity lineup the last couple seasons. Both boys had a fantastic senior season as our number 2 and 3 runners, while their leadership and work ethic have stood out and been an example to our younger runners. They will be missed, but we wish them good luck in their next venture.
