The Kats (15-3, 5-0 in NCC) made some tennis history today as we won our 3rd NCC championship in a row. Kokomo beat Muncie Central and Anderson 5-0 to go undefeated in the NCC's. We only dropped 2 games today and did not drop a set all year in conference. Our conference is down some, but this year we also beat Harrison, McCutcheon and Logansport. So, even against old NCC members, we still went 8-0. Shout out to Oilver Taskey and Hutch Munsey who both won their first varsity matches today. Hutch was right there in challenge matches vs our top seven players and has been the perfect 8th guy. He never complains, has a positive attitude, trusts the coaches and works hard every day to help us in practice. Oliver is also a dream to coach and is a tremendous teammate. They are both a big part of our team chemistry this year.As a team, this was our school's 19th tennis NCC championship, tying us for 1st all-time with Lafayette Jeff. Our first one was in 1927 and our 2nd championship was in 1994. We have had some excellent coaches (Hall, Schuck, Flanary) and players the past three decades to help us reach this milestone.Individually, Caleb now holds the record for most career single victories at KHS with 67. It is a testament to his work ethic, intelligence on the court and competitive spirit. He never really has taken many private lessons and tennis can become an expensive sport. He has really become an excellent tennis player by walking down to Foster Park to practice with Micah. His brother has been there every step of the way challenging him to improve. He has become a pillar for Kokomo tennis and we will miss his heart and leadership next year as he moves on.
