Lady Kats Come Out on Top

By Elizabeth Rayl | Aug 27, 2025 5:27 AM

The Lady Kats made a statement in their home match Tuesday night, defeating the Marion Giants in commanding fashion with a 3–0 victory. From the opening whistle, Kokomo controlled possession and kept the pressure high in the attacking third. The offensive duo of Mattie Rayl and Gisella Herrera led the charge, creating several early chances. The breakthrough came in the 20th minute when Herrera’s breakaway attempt looked destined to sail over, but Rayl was there to finish it off, giving the Lady Kats the lead. Energized by the goal, Kokomo continued to push forward, and Rayl struck again before halftime, doubling the advantage. Confident and composed after the break, the Lady Kats maintained control on both sides of the field. The defense, anchored by Izzy Riggs, stood tall against Marion’s attack, while goalkeepers Aiyonna Cox and Bella Steele came up with key saves to preserve the shutout. With the clock winding down, Kokomo sealed the win in style as Herrera found the back of the net in the final minute, putting the game out of reach and securing the team’s first victory of the season. The Lady Kats will look to carry this momentum into their next matchup on Thursday when they travel to face Northwestern.
