Lady Wildkats Open Season with Hard-Fought Battle Against Western The Kokomo Lady Wildkats kicked off their season this weekend in a much-anticipated matchup against county rival Western. Despite the scorching heat, the Wildkats showed grit and determination throughout the contest. Western struck early, putting three goals on the board before Kokomo responded with a score from junior forward Gisela Herrera. Though the Lady Kats trailed heading into halftime, they came out in the second half with renewed energy and fight. Sophomore Defender, Izzy Riggs, anchored the back line with strong leadership, while Herrera and Freshman, Mattie Rayl, pushed the attack with relentless offensive pressure. Herrera found the net again in the second half, tallying her second goal of the night. In the end, Western’s early lead proved too much to overcome, and Kokomo fell 6–2. Still, the performance was a promising step forward for the young team. Battling through injuries and an aggressive opponent, the Lady Wildkats displayed resilience and a foundation to build on for the rest of the season. The Lady Kats return to action Wednesday at home, with kickoff set for 6 p.m.
